Nagaland: Ganja worth over Rs one crore seized
Kohima, May 6: In a major haul of contraband, Kohima police has seized 3,587 kgs contraband from a Guwahati-bound LPG Gas Tanker on National Highway 39.
Official sources today said that the empty tanker was escorted by the police yesterday from Mao gate, which is the entrance point into Nagaland from Manipur, was proceeding towards Dimapur.
When the police noticed that the ''empty'' tanker seemed heavier than its normal weight, they stopped the vehicle and forced the driver to open the tanker's rear lid and discovered the contraband.
Police arrested both the driver and helper and seized the truck, along with the contraband whose value maybe estimated at about Rs one crore in the local market, sources said.
The tanker was carrying the consignment from Imphal and both men were paid Rs 30,000 each to dispatch it to Guwahati.
Further investigation was on, sources added.
