DMDK against celebrating MK's 50 yrs in assembly

Cuddalore, May 6: Desiya Murpoku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) leader and actor-turned-politician Vijayakanth today took strong exception to the Tamil Nadu government organising a function to celebrate the completion of 50 years of DMK President M Karunanidhi's election to the state assembly.

Talking to mediapersons at Vridachalam in this district of the state, he said it is wrong to organise a celebration for the purpose and added let the party celebrate it.

Mr Vijayakanth said when Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(DMK) was formed in 1949, Mr Karunanidhi was not a member of the party.

However, in the film 'Periyar' it was portrayed that Mr Karunanidhi was in the party at the time of the formation, he added.

It was wrong on the part of the producer of the film, he said adding that he is prepared to prove that Mr Karunanidhi was not there with the party during 1949.

Pointing out that the Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumarasamy had offered to resign in the cauvery water issue, Mr Vijayakanth wondered any Tamil Nadu minister would offer to resign for the cause.

He said the people were being cheated by the parliament members in the issue of Cauvery, Mullaperiyar and Palar.

Mr Vijayakanth said he had provided Rs 1.20 crore for Vridachalam for 2006-07 for 42 works, of which only 12 tasks were completed and the officals have no answer on why the other works were pending.
