CPI condemns lathicharge on CPI, CPI(M) workers

Hyderabad, May 6 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI) today condemned the police lathicharge on the CPI and CPI(M) workers at various places in the state.

In a statement here, CPI state secretary K Narayana alleged that the government and the revenue department had failed to take action against the mafia gangs who had allegedly grabbed lands by creating fake records.

While the CPI and CPI(M) workers were organising agitations, demanding house sites for the poor people, the government was trying to suppress the agitations by resorting to lathicharges and arrests.

He said the party would intensify the agitation if the government resorted to lathicharges on party workers. The forest department officials were creating problems for the Girijans in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts.

Though the government claimed that they would distribute lands to Girijans, the officials were trying to displace them from their lands, he alleged.
