Coordinate Committees to air grievances of Akalis to govt
Amritsar, May 6 (UNI) The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) will have Coordination Committees at the district levels for taking up the grievances of the workers with the state government.
This decision was taken at a joint meeting of SAD and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandik Committee (SGPC) leaders and members of Amritsar district here today. The meeting was presided over by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, who is also the President of the SAD.
Mr Badal announced this decision after certain leaders pointed out that workers were finding it difficult to air their grievances, as well as those of the general public before the government. This had led to resentment among workers, who had worked hard to ensure the victory of the SAD-BJP alliance in the assembly polls.
The Coordinated Committee would by and large consist of 11-members, which would include district level party functionaries, MLAs of the district and SGPC members.
Another important demand that was put up before Mr Badal was the need for setting up a party office in the city. It was pointed out to the Chief Minister that the head office of the SAD was once located in the Golden Temple complex but ever since it was shifted to Chandigarh, the party was left without an office.
The SAD chief asked his party functionaries to select a suitable place for the office and required funds would be given by the party.
