New Delhi, May 6 (UNI) Condition of former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar, who is undergoing cancer treatment in a city hospital, is improving, hospital authorities said today.

The 80-year-old politician, admitted in Apollo Hospital for over a month, underwent chemotherapy five days ago for multiple myeloma cancer, a cancer of the plasma cell.

At present, Mr Chandrashekhar is in post chemotherapy care.

''The condition of Mr Chandrashekhar is now stable and improving. He is responding satisfactorily to the treatment,'' an Apollo hospital spokesperson said.

Pankaj Singh, Mr Chandrashekhar's son, had yesterday said his condition was now stable.

Multiple Myeloma is a cancer of the plasma cell, an important part of the immune system, that produce antibodies to help fight infection and disease.

A team of experts, including New York-based oncologist Sunder Jagnat, is treating the former Prime Minister.
