Andaman condoles death of tribal chief
Port Blair, May 6 (UNI) Thousands of people at Car Nicobar Island today attended the funeral of tribal leader Ebrahim Ali Hussain.
Vice-chief captian of Car Nicobar Tribal Council Hussain (75) died here yesterday after prolonged illness.
He is survived by his wife, four sons and three daughters.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands Governor Lt Gen(Retd) Bhopinder Singh in his condolence message had described the tribal leader as dynamic and enigmatic.
''The territory administration will always remember his contribution for tribal development on the archipelago,'' Mr Singh said.
Lone MP from the territory Manoranjan Bhakta had expressed shock over the death of the leader.
'' His death has brought an end to a historical era. Tribals of this island should follow his footsteps,'' Mr Bhakta said in New Delhi according to a release issued here today.
The Muslim community along with other political parties of the archipelago besides the Church have expressed sorrow over the death.
A condolence meeting was held at Congress Bhawan here.
