Air Force adopts village in Meghalaya

Shillong, May 6: As part of the Air Force Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the Air Force Wives' Welfare Association (AFWWA) of the Eastern Air Command (EAC) has adopted Pomlum village, about 12 kms from here. The village was adopted yesterday, on behalf of Air Marshal P.K. Barbora, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, EAC and President of AFWWA Arundhati Barbora.

A welfare camp was organised on the occasion, in which the villagers were apprised about the various facilities they could avail. Free medical dental checkup for the villagers were carried out during the camp.

Children of the village were given admission in the Air Force School and uniforms were distributed to the children on installments.

The locals were also apprised about other ventures run by AFWWA (Local) such as adult literacy, cooking, baking, dance and computer classes which they could avail with special concessions.

The children of the poor villagers were also granted free admission in Navjeevan Vidyalaya run by AFWWA (Local). They were also appraised about Air Force and career in the IAF.

The villagers were also issued passes to enter the Air Force campus to avail the facilities offered to them.
