60 hydro projects allocated for RM in 11th plan
New Delhi, May 6: To improve the power scenario in the country, the Government has allocated 60 hydro projects for renovation and modernisation (RM) in 11th Plan.
The projects, with an installed capacity of about 11,230 MW at an estimated cost of about Rs 3,465 crore, are now programmed for implementation to accrue a benefit of about 4,327 MW.
Out of 60 projects, 27 projects are already on-going.
Further, 14 projects having an installed capacity of 2,646 MW, which were originally programmed for completion during 11th Plan, have now been shifted to 12th Plan, as utilities are not in a position either to carry out residual life assessment studies or units are running satisfactorily, stated the Annual Report of Power Ministry.
After completion of the RM works of these projects, there may be benefit of 2,403 MW at an estimated cost of Rs 659 crore.
