3 held on charges of extortion

Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, May 6 (UNI) Police arrested three people on charges of extortion and threatening at Bhimavaram in West Godavari district today.

Police said the arrested A Satyanarayana alias Sydney (30), Katari Appa Rao (33) and Yaesubabu (35), posing as Naxalites, had threatened a cloth merchant and demanded him to pay Rs three lakh.

They warned that if he failed to pay the amount, they would attack his house with bombs.

After receiving a complaint from the merchant, the police traced the phone call and made the arrest.

Deputy Superintendent of Police G Rajababu told newspersons that a case under Section 384, 507 of IPC had been registered against the accused.
