15-kg heroin seized from Nigerian in Mohali

Mohali, May 6 (UNI) Sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 15-kg heroin worth Rs 15 crore in the international market from a Nigerian national in Mohali last night.

Confirming the seizure DRI officials today said that the Nigerian identified as Michael had been arrested under the NDPS Act.

He was stated to be around 35 years of age and during interrogation he claimed to be studying in a Chandigarh college.

Giving details, officials said that the Nigerian who was on a motorcycle was nabbed when he received the drug consignment from certain person/persons seated in a car in the Sector-68 here. The occupant or occupants of the car however managed to escape.

The operation was jointly conducted by DRI sleuths from Delhi and Punjab. The arrested Nigerian had earlier also been arrested under the NDPS Act and was out on bail.
