13-member team for Asian Judo Championship in Kuwait

Patiala, May 6 (UNI) A thirteen-member Indian Judo team, comprising seven men and six women, will take part in the Asian Judo Championship slated for May 14 to 18 in Kuwait.

The team will leave from New Delhi on May 10.

The team members are: Men: Navjot Chana 60 kg, Parvinder 66 kg, Satpal 73 kg, Virender Singh 81 kg, Sanjay 90 kg, Jitendra Aluymban 100 kg and Pawan Kumar (open weight category).

Women: Tombi Devi 48 kg, Gomti Chanu 52 kg, Brijeshwari 57 kg, Y Landoni (63 kg, Jina 70 kg and Divya 78 kg.

The coaches who will accompany the Indian Judo contingent are: J G Sharma, Satish Sharma, Suma Gogi and Satish Pahare.

Eighteen countries are expected to participate in the Championship.

The ongoing coaching camp which began on March 2 at the NIS here will conclude on May 9 and the Kuwait-bound Judokas will assemble in Delhi thereafter from where they will take a flight.

Talking to UNI, Brijeshwari, who participated in Sydney Olympics in 2000, said "I hope to get a silver medal in the Asian Judo Championship." India's Judokas have never been impressive in international Judo competitions in the past.
