'Voting should be made compulsory'

Gorakhpur, May 5: Former president of Bar Council of India V C Mishra today demanded that polling be made compulsory by framing a law in this regard.

Talking to newspersons here, Mr Mishra also lamented the low polling percentage in the ongoing Uttar Pradesh assembly poll.

''The central government should pass a law in the Lok Sabha making it mandatory for all the Indian citizens to exercise their franchise,'' he noted.

Mr Mishra further suggested that deciding not to vote be made a cognisable offence.
