Value-added products distributed to fisherfolk

Visakhapatnam, May 5 (UNI) Forum of Fisheries Professionals President Dr K R Prasad today distributed inputs, namely ice boxes, drying mats and folding cots, plastic sheets for display of fish in the markets and fishlanding centres, and meat mincers for preparing ready-to-fry fish products, to fisherwomen in the city.

Speaking on the occasion, Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT) scientist in-charge Dr D Immam Khasim said the fisherwomen beneficiaries were identified by market surveys conducted by CIFT. The inputs were given as part of a Human Resource Development programme to create quality awareness among the fisherfolk.

The CIFT, celebrating its Golden Jubilee this year, was the only national institute in the country where research in all disciplines relating to fishing and fish processing was undertaken, he added.
