SSKU members on hunger strike sent to hospital by police
Kolkata, May 5(UNI) Six SSKU agitators who were on hunger strike for the last four days in front of the Hindustan Motors Uttarpara plant, were picked up by local police and shifted to Chinsura hospital midnight last night.
Speaking to UNI today, SSKU secretary Abhas Minas said, ''The members, who were on hunger strike for the last four days, were forcefully taken to the hospital by the police.'' Sangrami Sramik Karmachari Union(SSKU) is a platform of several trade unions.
Mr Minas alleged that the police had charged the union members with several cases. ''We have moved court today but tomorrow being a holiday, the leaders will not get bail,'' he said.
Uttarpara police sources said the condition of the SSKU leaders was deteriorating. Therefore they were transferred to the hospital.
The Hindustan Motors' Uttarpara plant, the country's oldest automobile unit which manufactures Ambassador cars, is facing labour strife for more than 50 days.
