Rs 3150 crore development plan for Amritsar

Amritsar, May 5 (UNI) The Punjab Government has approved a master plan of Rs 3150 Crore for this holy city and decided to set up a model Amritsar Development Authority.

This was announced by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal while he was presiding over a meeting of BJP Beopar Cell and Federation of Trade and Industry Association of Amritsar at Guru Nanak Bhawan here today.

Mr Badal said that Amritsar has been all set to take a giant leap with the setting up of a model Amritsar Development Authority which will plan, execute and oversee the comprehensive development of the city, matching up to the aspirations of the people representing the different hues and views.

Besides, on road to a major makeover of the holy city is the multi-faceted City Development Plan which will cater to various aspects of development, he said.

He said this plan envisages an investment of Rs 2,567 crore for urban transportation and road network, including an elevated road project. Besides Rs 312 crore has been earmarked to strengthen the water supply system, solid waste management and setting up of a sewerage treatment plan.

The Chief Minister said that Japan Bank of International Co-operation (JBIC) had agreed to extend a loan of Rs 276.24 crore for the Sewerage component of another Project costing Rs 360 crore.

He said keeping in view the ample scope of tourism in Amritsar, Rs 105 crore had been set aside for the promotion of tourism. For complete urban renewal, including conservation, preservation and development of culture and heritage, Rs 36 crore will be spent.

Besides, Rs 120 crore will be spent on housing and providing basic services to the urban poor and Rs 10 crore will be given for Urban Governance, he added.

The Chief Minister declared that the lost glory of Medical College of Amritsar will be restored and the college will be upgraded and transformed into an ultra modern and state of art Medical College and Hospital.

He said the District Administrative Complex will be constructed at the cost of Rs 40 crore in a period of one and a half year.

He said the Government planned to set up three thermal plants in the state, out of which the first one will be set up at Amritsar.
