New Delhi, May 5 (UNI) The Samajwadi Party today said it clearly smelt a conspiracy by the Congress to defeat it in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and help install a BJP Government in the state.

''Ms Sonia Gandhi and her MP son Rahul Gandhi had all through the poll campaign only targeted the SP and never said anything against the BJP, its leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the BSP,'' senior party leader Amar Singh said addressing a press conference here.

''The Congress was in fact helping in the saffronisation of the country by conceding power to the BJP. The latest examples are return of the BJP to Uttaranchal, Delhi, and Punjab,'' said the SP leader.

Debunking the poll surveys which predicted BSP as the single largest party, Mr Singh asserted that his party will have no difficulty in forming government in the state.

''The people have seen BSP leader Mayawati and the BJP together for three times and they now know that they cannot do any good to the state,'' he added.

The SP leader also came down heavily on Congress leader and head of the Uttar Pradesh Poll Campaign Committeec Kapil Sibal for his attack on the SP and Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav in connection with the NOIDA land scam.

''The fact is that the Chief Minister has nothing to do with these allotments. The allottees have been given plots out of the general quota, not out of the Chief Minister's discretionary quota,'' said Mr Singh.

Moreover, he said, Mr Sibal should know that there were also Congress men among the allottees.
