Prison-courts in Kerala to have video-conferencing facility
Thiruvananthapuram, May 5 (UNI) Prisons and court rooms in Kerala will be connected through video-conferencing facility to extend the remand period of undertrials, State Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said today.
Addressing reporters after visiting the Central Prison here, he said necessary amendments would be brought in the Code of Criminal Procedure for extending this facility. Besides, the jail rules would also be modified.
The video conferencing would minimise the risky' business of transporting prisoners to the court for every hearing, Mr Balakrishnan said.
Alleging that some external forces were trying to tarnish the image of the Government he said the Sree Avittam Thirunal episode, in which 38 new born babies died of infection, was an instance in this regard.
