MPCC Chief 'dupes' depositors

Shillong, May 5 (UNI) Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee President Onwardly Nongtdu is in a fix after a group of depositors lodged a criminal case against his bank, the Literature Centre Co-operative Society Limited.

In an FIR, the depositors alleged that the Society, headed by Mr Nongtdu as Chairman, H M Haque as Secretary and Altaf Haque as collector had 'cheated' them of their deposited money amounting to Rs five lakh.

''The Society has been collecting the money from various people in the form of recurring and fixed deposit with an assured interest rate of 10.5 per cent annually,'' the aggrieved depositors said.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case against the Society.
