MCD should deliver civic services at doorstep of Delhiites: Sushma

New Delhi, May 5 (UNI) The BJP rule in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will only be effective if the MCD is able to deliver civic services at the doorstep of the people of the city, senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj today said.

Addressing a function held by the Confederation of All India Traders where Delhi Pradesh BJP president Harshvardhan, chairman of the MCD Standing Committee Vijender Gupta and Deputy Chairman Yogender Chandolia were among those present, Ms Swaraj said the BJP in the MCD had to face many challenges posed by issues like sealing, corruption and mismanagement of civic services.

She advised the BJP leadership in the MCD to take immediate decision on the issues which come under the domain of the MCD whereas for isues related with the Delhi Government and the Centre, the party leaders should lead delegation of the traders to get the desired relief.

''In the event of any failure of the Government, the Delhi BJP and MCD leaders should be prepared to come out on the streets along with traders and citizens,''Ms Swaraj said and advised MCD leaders to constitute a 'core committee' in the MCD to exclusively deal with traders' issues.

Speaking on the ocasion, chairman of the MCD Standing Committee Vijender Gupta said the BJP had made in-depth study of issues related to sealing and had taken several steps to mitigate problems of the traders.

Earlier, CAIT secretary general Praveen Khandelwal listed problems of the traders including their demand for an amnesty scheme for establishments that exist as on December 31, 2006, inclusion of GK I, South Extension and Green Park in list of rehabilitatio colonies and extension of May 31 deadline for filing building plans.
