Maran against opp to opening up retail trade

Chennai, May 5: Union Communication and Information Technology Minister Dayanidhi Maran today expressed concern over the opposition, from many quarters, to the entry of multinationals into the country's retail trade and said the traders should instead prepare themselves to compete with the multinationals.

Participating in the Traders day celebrations organised by Tamil Nadu Vanigarkal Munnetra Sangam here, he wanted the trading community to approach Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for availing easy loan assistance with lesser interest to compete with multinationals.

Mr Maran noted that Tamil Nadu had attracted huge investment of over Rs 8,000 crore from foreign companies and this had fructified only because of the DMK Government's ''soft natured'' attitude towards them.
