Kolhapur, Sangli farmers call off stir

Kolhapur, May 5 (UNI) Irrigation project-affected farmers here, who had launched an agitation demanding their proper rehabilitation, have called off the stir following the Government's assurance in this regard.

The farmers' leaders, led by Bharat Patankar, met Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh who has expressed willingness to concede to the demands.

The farmers in Kolhapur and Sangli have been agitating since the last fifteen days, demanding proper rehabilitation and adequate compensation in lieu of their land which have been acquired for irrigation projects.
