Govt to open control room in SAT

Thiruvananthapuram, May 5 (UNI) The Kerala government today decided to open a control room in the Sree Avittam Thirunal (SAT) Hospital, where at least 38 new born babies died of alleged hospital-acquired infection during the past four months.

The decision was taken at a high-level conference attended by state Health Minister P K Sreemathi, Hindustan Latex Limited Chairman M Ayyappan and Pollution Control Board (PCB) Chief Engineer Vijayadas.

The control room, aimed at coordinating the functioning of the hospital and to make available information to the public, would be headed by National Rural Health Mission consultant Thomas Mathews.

The Hindustan Latex had been entrusted as the nodal agency for disinfecting the hospital and its premises.

It was also decided to constitute Infection Control Committees and Cleaning Committees in the Mother and Child hospitals in the state.
