Five names recommended for selection of AMU VC

New Delhi, May 5 (UNI) The Aligarh Muslim University Executive Council has recommended five names to the University Court for appointment of the Vice Chancellor.

The post was lying vacant for about a month after Mr Naseem Ahmad resigned, presumably in the wake of a controversy over the visit of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav to the campus, following he was issued a show cause notice by the Election Commission on the complaint of political parties.

The list contains the names of Vice Chancellor of the Cochin University of Science and Technology Prof PK Abdul Azis, Prof SM Ilyas, Director National Academy of Agricultural Research managament, Hyderabad, Lt Gen Zameeruddin Shah, deputy chief of the Army Staff, Prof Monirul Hasan of the Garhwal University and Prof SN Pathan, Vice Chancellor of the Rashtrasant Tukovoji Maharaj University, Nagpur.

The panel of names was approved at a special meeting of the Executive Council, presided over by AMU Vice Chancellor prof M Saleemuddin, a communication from the University said here.

A 1971-batch IAS officer of Haryana cadre, Naseem quit office on April 7, exactly a month before his retirement on May 7. He had taken over as the AMU VC on May 7, 2002.
