Five arrested under Cow Slaughter Act

Hoshiarpur, May 5 (UNI) Five people, including two women, were today arrested by Mahilpur police under Cow Slaughter Act at village Bachhoi in this district in Punjab.

The SSP, Antia Punj, told UNI that a police team, on a tip-off, raided a mango orchard about 25 Km from here and arrested five members of a family after recovering at least 50 cows from them.

During preliminary interrogation, the arrested Majnu, Lachhman Singh and his wife Guddi, Sohan Singh and his wife Gotmi, revealed that they used to collect cows and cow calf and later sold them to the slaughter houses.

They were being further interrogated, the SSP said.

Two others have managed to escape but will be soon caught, Ms Punj assured, adding that a case under sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Cow Slaughter Act had been registered against all of them.
