Develoment should be people-oriented: State Minority Commission
Mumbai, May 5 (UNI) Stating that the State Minority Commission(SMC) will take up the concerns raised by the people about the government's policy on the proposed Special Economic Zones (SEZs) around Mumbai, Maharshtra SMC chairman Naseem Siddiqui today said the Commission was not at all against the development in the form of SEZs, but it should not be at the cost of someone's livelihood.
''Any development should be people-oriented. And the government while setting up such special economic zones should first take the customs, lifestyle, traditions and the nature of the job of the people in the area into consideration,'' Mr Siddiqui said while leading a Commission's team's visit to Gorai village here today.
He was accompanied by vice chairman, Mr Mathai Abraham and secretary Mr Hashimi.
Mr Siddiqui also said that he will be submitting a report to the Chief minister on the concerns raised by the people of the area on the proposed SEZ there.
It may be recalled here that some 10,000 complaints filed by the people regarding the setting up of an SEZ are lying with the government.
