Court imposes fine on CBI in Madhumita murder case

DehraDun, May 5 (UNI): A local court hearing the hindi poetess Madhumita murder case imposed today a fine of Rs 2,000 on the CBI for not presenting its witness.

The CBI had instead applied for adjournament of todays hearing.

The counsel for the main accused Amarmani Tripathi, Surat Singh Negi, contended that the CBI was wasting time of the court and defence and the demanded imposition of a fine of Rs 10,000.

He said it was against the Supreme Court ruling, according to which the case was to be heard on a daily basis so that it could be disposed of within six months.

Special Session Judge V B Rai, after hearing the argument, imposed the fine and asked the CBI to present its witness on Monday.
