Cops asked to compensate widow in custodial death case

Vadodara, May 5 (UNI) A local court here has directed five policemen to pay a compensation of Rs 160,000 to the widow of an accused who had died while in police custody.

Police inspector B M Jadeja, police sub-inspectors M K Jhala, G M Baloch, B J Pathan and police constable Chhatrasingh Shankarbhai have been directed to pay the amount to Premilaben Jayaswal, whose husband Rasiklal Motilal Jayaswal was allegedly killed while he was in the police lock up.

Premilaben had petitioned the court, holding the five policemen responsible for the death of her husband.

Rasiklal had been arrested for causing unrest during Ganapati festival procession on October 9, 1994. He was allegedly beaten to death by the five policemen.
