Bride's lover lynched, groom refuses to marry
Varanasi, May 5 (UNI) In a tragic end to a romantic tale, the lover of a young bride was lynched by villagers when he tried to prevent the marriage of his beloved in Shivpur area here early today.
The marriage procession also left empty handed to Mirzapur after the groom refused to marry the young bride on coming to know she was involved with another youth.
Three persons including the father, brother and uncle of the bride have been detained for lynching the youth Sunil Patel (22).
Police said the incident took place at Undi village, where the marriage of a young girl was being solemnised with Ramesh from neighbouring Mirzapur district.
Meanwhile, Sunil sneaked into the bride's room and asked her not to marry. The bride's father, however, overheard the conversation and tried to oust the youth from his house.
Claiming to be the bride's lover, Sunil created a scene in the 'mandap,' requesting the groom not to marry his love.
The groom Ramesh, alongwith the entire marriage procession, left the bride's house in a huff refusing to go ahead with the marriage.
Angered by the entire episode, the bride's family and other villagers lynched Sunil.
Station Officer (Mahila Thana) Pratibha Singh said the young girl -- a BA student -- admitted of an affair with Sunil Patel -- a resident of Sarnath here -- for the last two years.
She further admitted that Sunil was lynched by her family members and villagers after he tried to prevent her marriage with Ramesh.
Three persons including her father Harishchandra Kannaujia, her brother and uncle have been detained in this connection.
