BJP slams govt for 'failing' to implement East-West corridor
Guwahati, May 5 (UNI) The Asom unit of BJP today criticised the Congress-led state government for 'failing' to make much progress in construction of roads under the East-West corridor.
Addressing a press meet here, BJP state president Ramen Deka said, ''The work is yet to make much headway. It is solely due to the lack of sincerity on part of the government.'' He informed that 731 km had been sanctioned in the state under the East-West corridor project during the BJP-led NDA regime at the Centre, and Rs 600 crore had been released for the purpose.
However, less than 20 per cent of the work had been done till now, he alleged.
Mr Deka further alleged that the state government was not sincere in implementing the project promptly.
He said, ''A good road network is essential for development and it was with this intent that the NDA government had sanctioned the project. But the Congress does not want to improve the conditions of the masses.'' He added that the state BJP had submitted a memorandum to the Governor in this regard on May 3.
