BJP seeks PM to rid Cabinet of 'tainted ministers'

New Delhi, May 5: The BJP today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to rid his Cabinet of all tainted ministers in the light of trial court convicting RJD Lok Sabha MP Mohammad Shahabuddin in the abduction of CPI-ML leader Chote Lal Gupta from a Railways level crossing in Siwan in 1999.

BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said the special court in Siwan in Bihar had found Shahabuddin guilty of kidnapping and is to pronounce the punishment on May 8.

''Shahabuddin is an MP supporting the UPA government and his conviction is a black spot in the history of democracy. It is time for the PM to get rid of all the tainted ministers in his Cabinet,'' Mr Javadekar said.

The RJD MP, however, was acquitted in two other criminal cases including the DAV college bomb blast case and shooting in the premises of a yarn mill in Siwan district in 1988 for insufficient evidence.
