Arrested drugs kingpin's associate held

Dibrugarh, May 5 (UNI) A female associate of notorious drugs mafia Ilalhi Sheikh was arrested from Loharpatty here today.

Juri Begum alias Munni was picked up from her residence by the district police.

Sheikh, the kingpin of drugs trade in Upper Asom and Arunachal Pradesh, had surrendered before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Dibrugarh on May three.

Booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Act, Shiekh had been arrested several times for peddling brown sugar, but was granted bail on each occasion.

Sheikh's rapidly expanding racket had come into focus once again when a private news channel had reported that people were selling their organs to purchase drugs.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, after the television report, had ordered a crackdown on the drug mafia in Upper Asom.
