Andaman issues warning to fishermen families

Port Blair, May 5 (UNI) The Andaman and Nicobar Administration today cautioned fishermen of this archipelago of possible heavy rains and high tide conditions, officials said today.

A caution notice issued by the local administration here warned local fishermen not to venture into the deep sea area.

''Southwesterly wind with speed exceeding 45 km per hour and generally rough seas are likely to occur along and off the Andaman and Nicobar coast in the next 24 hours,'' the notice said.

According to the local unit of the Indian Meteorological Department, heavy rains are likely to occur in isolated areas over these remote islands during this period.

Andaman and Nicobar - a group of 572 small and big islands have been witnessing a spell of rains since the last one week.

Since mid-March, these islands have received 0091.4 mm of rainfall.
