After cool Friday, heat returns, mercury rises to 39.1 Degree C

New Delhi, May 5 (UNI) After a cool Friday which saw Easterly winds and an overcast sky bring coolness to the weather in the capital, the Summer heat returned to scorch Delhiites with the mercury today rising to 39.1 degree Celsius.

After an overcast sky yesterday which, coupled with the Easterlies, lent a cool air to the weather in Delhi during the day, the Sun came out clear and bright in the Capital city today, leaving Delhiites sweating.

However, even though the maximum temperature rose to 39 degree C, from 36.5 degree C yesterday, it still remained one degree below normal.

Also the weather in the morning remained cool, with the minimum dropping to 23.1 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal, from 26.8 degree Celsius yesterday.

Clouds and thundery winds had yesterday plummeted maximum to 36.5 degree Celsius, two degrees below normal.

Despite a rise in mercury today, the maximum temperature in Delhi has remained at normal or below normal levels this week, thus offering some respite to the people of Delhi from the severe heat wave of last week.

Weathermen attribute respite to Delhiites from the heat wave to influence of an upper air circulation over Uttar Pradesh, which has set off cool Easterlies in Delhi in the last few days.

The respite could persist for the next 24 hours with the weathermen forecasting that influence of the upper air circulation would remain during the next 24 hours.

The beginning of the next week could, however, witness a return of the heat wave with the weathermen forecasting a rise in day temperatures in plains of Northwest India in the next two to three days.

''Current meteorological analysis suggests that gradual rise in day temperatures is likely over plains of Northwest India and East Uttar Pradesh during the next 2-3 days,''the Met office said.

The met office has forecast a mainly clear sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with thundery activity towards evening.
