NE: Active role expected from Indian Embassies
Agartala, May 5: The North Eastern states have urged the Centre to promote the region as a tourist spot through the Indian embassies.
Addressing the inaugural function of first North East Tourism festival here yesterday, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said, '' The Centre should expedite the infrastructural development in the region,'' while West Bengal Tourism Minister Manabendra Mukherjee expressed displeasure at the role of Indian embassies to promote tourism in this region.
'' Indian embassies are projecting Jaipur, Kerala and Goa as tourist destinations, '' Mr Mukherjee said adding the Eastern India possess some unique features capable of attracting a large number of tourists if projected properly.
The five-day tourism festival has been organised by the Ministry of Tourism to promote and strenghten relation among the NE states.
