96TH birthday of Dr Syedna Mohammed celebrated

Mumbai, May 5 (UNI) The 96th birthday of Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhannudin, spiritual leader of the Dawoodi Bohra Muslim Shia community, was celebrated by his followers all over the world.

In Mumbai, the Bohra Muslim community-dominated areas of Pydhonie and Bhendi Bazar celebrated yesterday the birthday of their spiritual leader by illuminating their houses with colourful lights. The Bohra women were seen wearing traditional colourful burkha, while the male members of the community were attired in white kurtas and pyjamas.

According to a press note issued from the Bohra mosque, the occasion was marked by Syedna's inauguration of the newly constructed Mauseleum of the 3rd Dai al- Mutlaq, Syedna Hatim (RA) at Hutaib Mubarak, located in Haraz mountain of Yemen. An International Dawoodi Bohra Scout Band competition was also held among the 92 bands hailing from India, Dubai and Karachi.

Celebrations had in fact started 40 days earlier, from the day of Prophet Mohammed's birthday with various social and spiritual activities, which culminated in Syedna's birthday yesterday.

The Dawoodi Bohra community has over 700 community centres all over the world, dedicated to the upliftment of the socio-economic condition of its members by undertaking various projects like organizing medical camps, health seminars, trade fairs, business seminars etc.
