3 more detained under NSA

Chennai, May 5 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government today detained three more accused in the iron balls smuggling case under the National Security Act (NSA).

Police said the detained were Ramesh, a detergent soap unit owner of Perambalur, Ramachandran of suburb Thirisoolam and Sukumaran of suburban Valsarawalkam.

It might be recalled that the police secured 26 persons in connection with the smuggling of iron balls to Sri Lanka.

The police recently raided several premises at Mannadi in the city, Madurai, Tuticorin and Perambalur and seized a large quantity of iron balls, allegedly meant for LTTE to make explosives, police said.

With the detention of three, the total persons detained under NSA had touched 26 in connection with the case.

While 14 were lodged in Central Prison at Tiruchirapalli, the rest were lodged in Central Prison at Puzhal, police added.
