10 people injured in clashes at Jhargram
Midnapore, May 5 (UNI) Ten people including two scribes, were injured in a clash between supporters of the CPI(M) and the Trinamul Congress (TMC) at Aguiboni village under Jhargram Police Station in this district, police said.
Sub-Divisional Officer, Jhargram, Eron Ebrahim Israel, said the injured were admitted to a local hospital and the condition of five people was stated to be critical.
Five persons had been arrested so far in this connection, the SDO added.
The clash was sequel to Thursday's alleged ransacking of a TMC office at Aguiboni village in which two TMC supporters were injured.
The TMC party flag was downed from the party office and a red flag hoisted in its place on Thursday which led to a series of clashes, the SDO said.
However, the CPI(M) supporters claimed that the party office, which once belonged to them, was subsequently captured by the TMC supporters.
District TMC president Mrigen Maity however, denied the claim.
