Vanjhara faces threat to life in Jail
Ahmedabad, May 4 (UNI) The three IPS officers, including D G Vanjhara, arrested in connection with the fake encounter killing case and presently lodged in the Sabarmati Central Jail, are likely to be shifted to the Mehsana jail for security reasons.
''There are hundreds of prisoners belonging to minority community, arrested under Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA), who are lodged in the same barrack as Vanjhara in the Sabarmati jail,'' a senior police officer told UNI.
''Since Vanjhara has earned enough notoriety in targetting members of minority community in the aftermath of post Godhra riots in Gujarat, we percieve a serious threat to his life from these prisoners,'' the officer said.
Meanwhile, Crime Investigation Department in Gujarat has indicated that they will carry out brain mapping tests on the police officers, involved in fake encounters.
In another development, IGP Geetha Johri, who headed the team that conducted a preliminary inquiry into the Sohrabuddin Shaikh fake encounter, today took charge as supervisory officer of CID (Crime) probing the 2005 incident.
The police remand of the three IPS officers, meanwhile, expires tomorrow and the CID is likely to seek further police remand.
