TDP asks PM to order inquiry into passport case
Hyderabad, May 4 (UNI) Amidst reports of involvement of several of his party MPs and legislators in the fake passport case, Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu today asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to order a comprehensive inquiry into the case and take stringent action against those involved, irrespective of political affiliation.
The reported involvement of several of his party leaders has shocked Mr Naidu, who held a high-level meeting to review the situation. The gathering asked him to write a letter to Dr Singh in this regard.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, Mr Naidu said stringent action against people indulging in such acts was the only way to restore confidence of the people in their representatives.
In an apparent backtracking, Mr Naidu, who last week had sought immediate action against errant public representatives in the human trafficking issue, today asked for a comprehensive probe in to the matter.
Meanwhile, former minister and chief of the youth wing of the TDP Talasani Srinivasa Yadav denied Rashid's allegations of his involvement in the case. He said if the allegation was proved, even before courts awarded him punishment, he would hang himself.
