Security alert at Taj Mahal to counter terrorism

Agra, May 4: Elaborate security arrangements have been made at the world-famous Taj Mahal to counter any terrorist threat. "Taj Mahal had always been in the hit list of terrorists. Even the Intelligence Agencies are continuously getting information that the monument could be attacked anytime", Inspector General (Kanpur zone) Javid Ahmed told reporters here. He said close circuit camera TVs (CCTVs) and wire-fencing have been setup to keep a tight check on security. Besides, nine watch towers would be installed.

To control the rush, officials have been directed to close the Southern gate of the Taj, he added.

''Even though, the Archeological Survey of India, Central Paramilitary forces, Agra Development Authority, PAC and police personnel play a major role in the security arrangements, certain cases of laxity came to highlight in dummy checking,'' he said.

He said the 'Urs' management has been asked to prohibit the entry of outsiders on the day of 'Namaaz'.
