Powerful blast jolts Tinsukia, 4 injured
Guwahati, May 4 (UNI) ULFA rebels triggered a powerful blast in the heart of Tinsukia town in upper Asom this morning, injuring four persons, two of them critically.
Police said, the IED, which was kept in a Maruti gypsy parked at Siding Bazar of Tinsukia, went off at 0730 hours.
At least four persons were injured in the blast. Two of them, Balakram Balmiki and Dharma Kumar, were rushed to the Asom Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh. They were stated to be critical.
Police said two gas cylinders kept in the vehicle also gave the explosion a more devastating effect. Had the blast occurred few hours later when the market opens, the casualty would have been much higher, police said.
Security was beefed up in the district, and search operations had been intensified.
