Parle Biscuits found flouting govt norms

Bhuj, May 4 (UNI) The Local civil supplies department raided Parle Biscuits Manufacturing Unit, a well-known biscuit brand, and seized material worth Rs 1.5 crore for the company's failure to maintain proper stock registers.

District civil supplies officer N L Pandor said ''maida'', sugar, coconout oil, and vegetable ghee stored in the plant were seized on wednesday.

He said as per the Essential Commodities Act of 1977 and notification issued by the state government in June 2006, it is obligatory for traders to maintain a daily stock register that shows the opening and closing balance of commodities.

The civil supplies inspector, who visited the Parle Biscuit plant, found no such record being maintained of the raw materials on daily basis, Mr Pandor said.

He further added that the plant manager requested him to return the stock against a bank guarantee.

Meanwhile the factory employing 405 workers halted its production yesterday for want of raw materials, according to a factory spokesman.
