Bhopal, May 4: Madhya Pradesh Assembly Opposition Leader Jamuna Devi has demanded a judicial or a CBI inquiry into the death of a 'dalit' in police custody in Vidisha last year.

Drawing comparison with Gujarat fake encounter killing, Ms Devi said Vikram died due to torture by police, who were trying to cover up the case.

In a statement here yesterday, she said she had obtained factual information from the affected family and had written to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to take action in this regard.

She expressed surprise over no action being taken against guilty police personnel even after the passage of one year.

Ms Devi said Vikram was picked up from his home by Kotwali police for interrogation last year.

A court had recently issued arrest warrant against a Town Inspector and a constable of the police station for interrogation in the case.

The Congress leader demanded adequate compensation to the next of kin of the deceased besides providing government job to a family member on sympathetic grounds.
