National inter-school debate championship in HP
Shimla, May 4 (UNI) Fifteen prestigious schools from across the country are taking part in the Dr Samuel Slater Memorial Inter School invitational debates being held in the Bishop Cotton School here.
Three members of team each would speak either for or against the motion on nineteen topics during the four-day event, which began here on Wednesday.
The winning school team would be awarded replicas of the running silver trophy, while two special trophies, called the GEI Cotton, would be awarded to the best two speakers of the contest on the final day of the event tomorrow.
Auckland School, Shimla, Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai, La Martiniere for Girls, Kolkata, La Matineere College for Girls, Lucknow, Loreto House, Kolkata, Mayo College for Girls, Ajmer, Rashtriya Indian Militiary College, Dehra Dun, St james School, Kolkata, The Assam Valey School, Assam, The Dri Ram School, Gurgaon, The Doon School, The Sagar School, Tijara, Welham Girls School, Dehra Dun, Vasant Valley School, New Delhi and Bishop Cotton School, Shimla are participating in the event.
The judges for the Dr Samuel Slater Memorial Inter School Invitational Debates, which was into its tewefth year, include Mrs Amita Malik, Dr Sbobhana Bhattacharya, Mr Mark Tully, Mr Kishie Singh, Ms Shama Futehally and Mr Umesh Anand.
The memorial debate has become one of the best inter-public school debates in the country.
