Nadiad, May 4 (UNI) The President of Nadiad municipality Mahesh Desai ended his indefinite fast today by drinking a glass of fruit juice, given to him by Union Minister of state for Petroleum Dinsha Patel.

Mr Desai ended his fast this morning after the Nadiad MLA Pankaj Desai received a letter last evening from the state Urban Development department stating that Rs 62.72 lakh have been approved for the town's ''slab drainage'' system during the monsoon.

Mr Desai had commenced his indefinite fast yesterday to protest lack of completion of storm water project in the town. Though the roads have been dug for last one year, yet the work has not progressed and now it has come to a standstill, he said.

A BJP member, Mr Desai had begun his hunger strike last Monday, with 18 councillors supporting him at the venue near Santram mandir.

On Tuesday, he had tonsured his head, blaming the state government for the delay.

Sources said Mr Desai's action was connected to internal wrangling with the Nadiad MLA Pankaj Desai, who termed Mahesh's hunger strike as ''a drama''.
