Minorities in WB lag behind other states in education

Kolkata, May 4: Minorities in West Bengal are lagging behind those in the other states, said Mubarakh Kapdi, a renowned motivator for educational awareness.

Mr Kapdi said,'' minorities in the state are lagging behind both in the educational and economic front.'' He further stated that an 'Educational Inqalab Movement' should be started in the state to bring justice to this 'deprived' community.

Citing figures that in Maharastra 16 lakh students of this minority community have appeared for the matriculate examination this year, whereas, the drop out rate in Bengal is increasing day by the day.

'' Maharastra has 892 Urdu colleges, of which only 12 are not affiliated, but in West Bengal not a single one has got such affiliation,'' he stated.

He futher lamented that the Centre had provided recognition to only 103 Muslim institutes so far.

Insisting on the needs to avoid communal and secular parties he said,'' The minorities want to lead their life with respect. So we have moved to the court under article 29 and 30 to get for our rights.'' He also urged the Centre to provide adequate support from the Maulana Azad Educational Fund.
