Manipur Assembly by-elections on June 2

New Delhi, May 4 (UNI) The by-elections to Khundrakpam and Khongbok Assembly constituencies in Manipur will be held on June 2, the Election Commission today announced.

The by-elections were necessiated due to the death of the sitting members.

The notifications will be issued on May 8. The last date of making nominations will be May 15. The scrutiny will take place on May 16 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature will be May 18.

The counting of votes will take place on June 5 and the date of completion of election process will be June 8.

The model code of conduct comes into force with immediate effect in the districts where the constituencies, going on polls, are located.

The commission has decided to use Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the by-elections in all the polling stations. All steps have been taken to ensure that the polls are conducted smoothly with the help of these machines.

The commission has also decided that the voters identification shall be mandatory in these by-elections at the time of poll.

In order to ensure that no voter is deprived of his/her franchise.

In case his/her name does not figure in the Electoral Roll, separate instructions will be issued to allow additional documents, apart from the Electors' Photo Identity Card (EPIC), for identification of voters at the time of the polls in these by-elections.
