Man arrested for rape

Nagpur, May 4 (UNI) The police here have arrested a 40-year old man for allegedly raping his 20-year old relative after threatening to kill her.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Vijay Gajanan Balpande, took the girl with him from her house here on the pretext of finding her a match.

Balpande told the girl's other relatives that he was taking her to his nephew for a possible alliance, a police press release here said.

However, he took the girl to a room in a hotel on the outskirts of the city, the press release said. He then tied a scarf around her throat, threatened to kill her and then raped her.

Acting on the girl's complaint, the police registered an offence under sections 342, 376, 377, 307 and 506 (B) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and arrested Balpande. The police did not say how the girl was related to the suspect.
