New Delhi, May 4 (UNI) The Lok Sabha today expressed grave concern over rampant unemployment among educated youth and urged to government to take concrete steps to address the issue.

Participating in the discussion over a Private Members Bill relating to an increasing number of unemployed educated youth, the lower House observed that a large number of youth despite having the technical and vocational skills were unemployed, which poses a major challenge to the country.

Introducing the bill Mr Chandrakant Bhaurao Khaire of Shiv Sena mooted the setting up of Self Employed Centres in each district on the pattern of the District Indsutrial Centres and counselling centres to provide assistance to those unemployed youth who possessed the required entrepreneurial skills.

He also suggested that separate recruitment centres be opened for them as the case with Railways and PSUs, which had their own recruitment centres.

While emphasising on the need for creation of self employment opportunities for the unemployed youth as the government jobs had shrunk, the Shiv Sena member pointed out there were at least three crore such youths in the country. ''If we provide them soft loans, provide further skills and training, the trend can be contained.'' Supporting the bill, Bijender Singh (Congress) said the bill is important and brought home the point that the unemployed youth, out of frustration, were now taking to crime.

The discussion, however, remained inconclusive.
