Kuwait amnesty comes at wrong time for Indians
Dubai, May 4 (UNI) The two-month amnesty announced by Kuwait for illegal foreign workers and overstayers has come at a wrong time for Indians, who are struggling to get tickets to return home.
The amnesty declared from May 1 has put pressure on Indian voluntary organisations, who have been inundated with requests for air tickets at a time when most flights are full and rates are high.
Kuwait Pradesh Cultural Congress (KPCC) Chairman Abbey Varicad told Arab Times that most illegal workers do not have financial resources to buy tickets at current prices and fear their opportunity for freedom might slip through their fingers.
Viracad said raising money for air tickets for all amnesty seekers would be impossible at such a short notice.
He, therefore, suggested that the Indian Embassy, which is arranging exit passes for those who do not have travel documents, should make arrangements for their repatriation.
The illegal workers said they were victims of deceit and trickery of manpower exporters, agents and sponsors.
